There is a disappointing satisfaction to be had when one's preconceptions turn out to be entirely justified. When the stereotype of a nation conforms exactly to actual experience.
So, Canada really does turn out to be an exquisitely friendly place, with an exceptional quality of life, fabulous scenery and better manners than I have come across anywhere in the Western world.
I'll stop there - as I don't want to become one of those irritating people who claim to 'know' a country having been there for no more than 48 hours. No doubt there is a dark side to this society. But so far at least, I have seen nothing that disappoints.
I'll probably be mugged on the way home tonight....
Good to hear - I'll be out in Canada myself in just over a week. I gather the beer's awful though...

I love Peter Ustinov's crack about Toronto - New York run by the Swiss.

The sister of a friend has just returned to blighty a year after emigrating to Toronto, because she was so isolated and all her efforts to make friends were rebuffed.
Of course I'm sure the fact that she has a rather permanent tan has nothing to do with this.

I could be snarky and say there's a difference between feeling isolated and getting an axe in the head, but I won't, I'm far too polite.
