Much has been made over the past few weeks of the apparent unwillingness of many major media outlets to use the word 'terrorism', preferring other terms such as 'militant' or simply 'bomber'.
The New York Times today reports that another institution has decided to rein back on its use of the T word. And this is no lily-livered liberal outpost of snivelling apologists. It is none other that George Bush's White House. According to the NYT, the White House no longer likes to speak of
the war on terror
Its new soubriquet is
the global struggle against violent extremism
Another defeat in the war against euphemisms?
